I am a theoretical high energy physicist turned software developer turned engineering manager — and, as of 2026, a developer again. I’ve been in the software industry for over 20 years and have had the opportunity to work with technologies across the full stack.

Currently, I work at Shopify as a Senior Staff Engineer on the Ruby and Rails Infrastructure team, where I focus on hands-on technical work across our Ruby and Rails tooling and infrastructure.

Before that, I was the Engineering Manager of the Ruby Infrastructure team — the team responsible for ensuring that the Ruby language and tooling around it continues to thrive and develop for years to come. Among other things, we worked on building a high-performance JIT compiler inside CRuby, optimizing the memory layout of CRuby objects for better performance, and implementing object shapes for simpler and faster ivar access.

From December 2023 to January 2026, I served on the Board of Ruby Central, helping the organization with its OSS and conference efforts.
